ps. don’t forget to note our unusual gathering time, but also the daylight savings time change!

afterschool wonders

We’ll be hanging out at a local elementary school to offer free drop-in activities one evening a week (Mondays) – with a focus on connecting with grade 7 & 8 students.  There will be athletics (i.e. basketball, volleyball, floor hockey, yoga, etc.) & tutoring (math, science, English lit.) as well as a music making/recording and an art collective (i.e. silk screening, portfolio building).  We may even eventually expand into an organic community garden!  It all gets started after the March Break.   We’re excited about the possibilities of connecting with students from this amazing neighbourhood in positive ways to encourage learning and growth!

See you soon down at the school!

‘river’ worship every sunday

‘river’ is our community time of worship where  spirit and justice flow.

‘river’ happens each sunday at 4pm at our ‘abbey’, st. anne’s church. please note that ‘river’ is going “into the wilderness” for the season called ‘lent.’  from mid-february until good friday – april 2 – we’ll be holding ‘river’ at various places in this amazing neighbourhood.  keep an eye on this website, join the facebook group, and/or get on our email list to be kept in the loop of where we’ll be (also note that the starting time may also vary some weeks). we’ll be back in the church for good friday and easter sunday!!!

each week we celebrate the ancient mysteries of our spirituality with bread and wine, eclectic song, ritual, and creativity.  we usually have a children’s gathering as part of ‘river’ and/or intergenerational creative aspects.

This week, the ’river’ community will be joining our friends at Parkdale Neighbourhood Church for worship (they’ve come up and joined us a few times now!)

PNC is located in the basement of Epiphany & St. Mark Anglican – 201 Cowan Avenue (Cowan, south of Queen, right behind the Parkdale Library).  There is a map available here.

Please note that worship begins there at 3:30pm. Also, please note that this will be a potluck (which the service flows into) – so please bring a contribution of food or drink.

There will be NO community meeting this weekend. We’re working on an alternate date.  We had proposed next weekend but have hit a few possible snags. More on that soon.

Hope to see you on Sunday!

‘river’: sunday feb 28th, 4pm : lost together in dragon alley (bonar place).

IMG_2097“Strange and beautiful are the stars tonight
that dance around your head
in your eyes I see that perfect world -
I hope that doesn’t sound too weird
And I want all the world to know
that your love’s all I need – all that I need
and if we’re lost – then we are lost together.”
- Blue Rodeo, Lost Together
——————————————————————————–

this sunday, the ‘river’ community is going to get ‘lost together’ in ‘dragon alley’ as we continue wandering the neighbourhood for this season of lent.

dragon alley is a place of creativity here in the neighbourhood.  some children have claimed the alley and painted it, and made it a place of play and wonder!  what better place to hold a gathering! a little oasis in the wilderness.

to get to dragon alley – check out this map…  walk west from the “A” on the map to the little garden beside the Green P.  if you can’t access the map, we’ll be in the first alley north of college, and west of dufferin – it’s called “bonar place”.  go west from dufferin down bonar and you’ll see us.

we’re hoping it stops snowing and things warm up (it’s supposed to).  either way, we’re going to have a much shortened gathering with some action songs to keep warm – but dress warm nonetheless!  ‘river’ community member Julie Hard, who is about to head out for 6 months to Haiti will share as she prepares for that journey (she leaves tuesday). there will be bread and wine, as usual!

after we’re done the shorter service, we’ll have some hot chocolate & coffee & we’ll walk (about 5 minutes) up to the dufferin park rinkhouse, where there will be skating (skate rentals are available) and a heated rinkhouse.  you may wish to bring a few dollars for snacks, hot chocolate and other tasty goods that they sell up there from the rinkhouse.  there are usually skate rentals available. lance is going to bring some toboggans as well!

should be a good time.  snow and/or shine!!!

see you on Sunday.

the ‘river’ team.
