‘river’ worship every sunday

‘river’ is our community time of worship where  spirit and justice flow.

‘river’ happens each sunday at 4pm at our ‘abbey’, st. anne’s church.

each week we celebrate the ancient mysteries of our spirituality with bread and wine, eclectic song, ritual, and creativity.  we usually have a children’s gathering as part of ‘river’ and/or intergenerational creative aspects.

quick updates…

here are some updates and events worth noting…

*** we’re doing a weekly potluck and planning for each upcoming ‘river’ worship on tuesdays at 5pm at ‘the-yet-unnamed-community house’ (formerly ‘the rectory’) at 276 gladstone beside the church.  it all starts tomorrow evening (june 8th). come by for some casual creative brainstorming & bring along some food or beverage (helen’s making soup, deb’s bringing banana bread, rob’s making a salad!)…

*** matthew house volunteering has now shifted to monday afternoons.  today, we started work on our organic community garden.  come to hang out, meet folks from around the world - and/or to learn how to build composters, a spiral herb garden, paint funky signs, or do other such things.  we’ll also have an ESL component each week.

*** ‘river’ and formation groups will be shifting into a new theme of “dear God” as we explore our questions for God.  it all begins this coming sunday with river – and formation group will begin on thursday june 17th.  precise location and time of formation groups tba.

*** taize evening prayer will happen every tuesday from 7:30pm-8:15pm -beginning June 15th (not tomorrow, but next week) in the chapel in the parish hall. come for quiet, candelit, contemplative chant and worship.  jeremiah community morning prayer continues mondays, wednesdays and fridays (usually with music on fridays) at 7:30am in the church.

*** reel conversations (film/discussion) is showing a really great looking documentary on saturday june 19th at 7pm at the community house.

*** there will be a ward 18 candidates debate is on wed. june 23, 6:30pm in the parish hall.

*** Sandra is still ordering fair trade coffee each month at a good price for drop-off at river. If you’d like some, drop us a line and we’ll put you in touch.

*** afterschool drop-in continues through june and our bike exchange/give-away continues – look for an event to clear bikes soon.

*** guerilla-12 will be continuing to partner with us with their youth arts program this summer.  brockton writers’ group will also expanding their partnership with us.  urban flute ensemble too.

keep an eye on this email update and the website for other emerging things – like a weekly sewing drop-in & a baking collective, a monthly neighbourhood barbeque, a late summer camping retreat, orientation for new jeremiah community members and more!

also, please note that this week, the jeremiah community offices will be moving into the community house.  feel free to stop by and say hello anytime.  well, almost anytime!  we love visitors!

afterschool music…

fireescape studioThings are going great with our after-school drop in at a neighbourhood school.  We hang out each Monday with Grade 7 & 8 students – and have several ’streams’ – including athletics, design/silkscreening/art, tutoring, and – my personal favourite – music production and recording.

Last Monday, the music group went to local recording studio where musical guru Douglas Romanow guided us through a ‘make-a-song-in-less-than-an-hour’ challenge at his Fire Escape Studios.  There’s a 50 second sample of what our amazing crew did here.

If you’re a neighbourhood dweller who’s interested in getting involved in any of the streams of Jeremiah Community’s afterschool drop in, drop us a line…

spring…

we haven’t had a lot of time to update lately… but things are happening!

we’ve been busy with things like the afterschool drop in, plans for at least one new community house of hospitality (possibly 2), a few eco-gardens and other eco-initiatives,  river worship, a new formation group on the reign of God, and so much more… starting in june, we’ll be starting some evening prayer stuff (likely one evening in the style of the taize community).

we’re also figuring out what it means to be part of our growing little community.  it’s all getting clearer and more exciting by the day.

interested in re-imagining your life in community – living communion and mission?  give us a shout.  spring is a good time for new things.
